Easter Meal for Families in Upper Egypt

Easter is one of, if not the most, joyous feast of the entire year for Christians. For Coptic Orthodox Christians in Egypt, it is particularly special due to the long lead up of 55 days of Lent and intense Holy Week pascha services that culminate in the jubilant celebration of Christ’s triumph over death and His promise of a new life to believers. Throughout the country, Coptic Christians can be observed celebrating the feast with loved ones and preparing multiple rich food items after a long period of fasting. For many Chrisitans living in Upper Egypt, however, poverty stands in the way of a proper feast day celebration.

This Easter, Unheard Cries has identified 200 families in Upper Egypt that are in need of our help to make their feast special. Without our help, they will face an Easter with empty tables as many are unable to afford even a simple meal. Unheard Cries is therefore partnering with on-ground representatives in Upper Egypt to provide food baskets for these families to help them celebrate properly. Each basket will contain:

  • 2 kg of rice

  • 2 kg of sugar

  • 2 kg of pasta

  • 2 bags of tea

  • 2 kg of meat

  • 1 kg of butter

  • 1 kg of cookies

For just $21, you can provide an entire family with a basket of food. Throughout Lent and Holy Week, Christ in the scriptures can be seen admonishing the scribes and Pharisees for tightly adhering to matters of the jewish law without also tending to the needs of the poor and vulnerable. This Easter, let us bring joy to His heart by helping His brothers and sisters celebrate His glorious resurrection.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food” (Matthew 25:35).
